In Fuerza matriz, Juan López combines spatial intervention with sculptures and works on paper. With this project, he deepens his interest in the relationships established between drawing and sculpture, the way in which a line can continue, acquire or give volume and transfer between different surfaces.
As usual, the origin is found in the city, a great matrix from which to obtain forms through pressure, inversion and the repetition. However, this time the materials are shown exactly as they are: paper, resin, waste. The interest resides in the form, in the patterns generated by the repetition of movements, by applying pressure to reveal their expressive capacity, in his obsession with discovering a language outside convention. Signs that are generated spontaneously and can redefine a space.
Juan López received his BFA from University of Castilla La Mancha. He was awarded numerous grants and prizes, among them: Post Brossa, Fundación Botín Arts Grants, ABC Arts Award or Generaciones 2013.
