Based, on the one hand, on the ability of art to visually express stories of all kinds and, on the other, on the richness of the museum’s collections, the new proposal of La Ruta del Arte BBK offers a heterogeneous and plural journey through Western art with authors who, throughout history, have been inspired by literary sources of diverse nature and origin.
In this sixth edition, the theme Stories has guided the selection of 38 works by different artists, periods, and techniques—painting, collage, watercolor, sculpture, poster, photography, and video—curated by the museum’s Curator of Ancient Art, José Luis Merino Gorospe.
Since 2020, La Ruta del Arte BBK Artearen Ibilbidea has extended the museum’s dissemination and educational activity beyond its headquarters, with the objectives of promoting artistic culture and showcasing the richness of its heritage in public spaces. To this end, in each edition, a new mobile display is created, composed of a series of panels that faithfully reproduce works from the collection.
In addition, this initiative offers a mediation program that includes guided visits for educational centers and cultural associations, as well as responding to queries from visitors who come to see the exhibition.
This year—once again with the collaboration of the BBK Banking Foundation and the municipalities—the route will run from May 6 (Bilbao) to December 7 (Durango), covering 31 towns in Biscay.
