Parallels and meridians marks the 125th anniversary of the founding, in Bilbao, of Iberdrola through an extensive and outstanding selection of modern and contemporary art preserved by the company.
Named after the two axes that define the Iberdrola Collection, Parallels and meridians is divided into eight sections, grouping the 138 works into categories related to the most important themes of the collection: Beginnings; Nature, Waters and Weaves; The Body and Its Traces; Work; Light; Artists and Their Spaces; Architecture and Construction; City and Port. Creating an archipelago of recognisable places in art, the works from different periods and places interact and contrast with one another. The map drawn by Parallels and meridians provides an open view of the real and imagined world, showcasing a variety of art forms that embrace the most innovative ideas of their time on both a universal and local scale.
The exhibition is completed by a visit to the lobby of the neighbouring Torre Iberdrola, where the works, some of which are site-specific, conclude the narrative of the steady growth of the company and its art collection.
