Vasco Futscher's solo exhibition at Kubikgallery Porto. "Rosebud takes its title from two cultural references: the final word in Citizen Kane and the cheat code from The Sims used to generate endless money. Between private memory and artificial abundance, the exhibition moves through ideas of desire, control, accumulation, and emotional residue.

Several of the works emerged from a period of isolation during the COVID lockdowns, following a series of functional objects made for the artist’s studio — soap holders, paintbrush dryers, and other improvised domestic tools. These gestures of self-containment and repetitive utility echo both the paranoid interiority of Citizen Kane and the closed systems of simulation in The Sims, where characters can be endlessly managed, confined, or abandoned within constructed environments.

Though sculptural, all of the works are conceived for the wall, invoking the intimacy and status of easel painting — a historically bourgeois format associated with possession, display, and illusion."
