Arturo Comas will present Sete feiras at Galeria Nave: The absurd and the everyday object take centre stage at Lisbon Art Weekend. The exhibition is supported by AC/E Acción Cultural Española.

Marking the upcoming edition of Lisbon Art Weekend, Galeria Nave will open Sete feiras on Thursday 5 November at 6:30 pm, the highly expected second solo exhibition in the Portuguese capital of the Spanish artist Arturo Comas.

The project emerges from research and fieldwork developed by the artist across seven flea markets and traditional second-hand markets from the north to the south of Portugal (Monção, Serpa, Barcelos, Tavira, Boliqueime, Viana do Alentejo, and Vila Nova de Cerveira). Taking these spaces as authentic cultural laboratories, Arturo Comas reflects on the life cycle of objects, their obsolescence, and the transition between utility and memory.

In Sete feiras, artistic practice intersects with ethnographic observation. The works on display use acquired objects as raw material for new sculptural compositions. Far from mere accumulation, the artist promotes a symbolic preservation of the pieces, saving them from oblivion and material extinction. By being detached from their original utility and integrated into the artistic field, these objects gain autonomy and transform into devices of resistance and poetic reflection.

Mercedes Cerón, Director of Galeria Nave: «This is Arturo Coma’s second exhibition at the gallery. He has been incredibly well received by the public and, in the three years since his first presentation in Lisbon, he has been invited several times to participate in group exhibitions in Portugal as well as in Berlin, Germany, where NAVE maintains a strong presence and collaboration. Comas not only persists in his research into the object and the common, but once again digs into Portuguese culture, tradition, and the search for the image of a territorial identity, translating it into his sculptural and installation language. »
