Alarcón Criado gallery inaugurates a new exhibition by artists Alegría and Piñero, featuring a selection of previously unseen works under the title Aboa(c)aoba.
Alegría y Piñero is an artistic tandem formed by Alegría Castillo Roses (Córdoba, 1985) and José Antonio Sánchez Piñero (Chiclana de la Frontera, 1975. Since 2009, they have developed long-term projects in which they explore formal and conceptual strategies around the relationship between image, language, and perception. Their interest in movement within the arts has led them to investigate experimental cinema and its origins, as well as to conceive optical and sound devices that expand the experience of sculpture towards the performative. The phenomenology of speech also led them to develop a series of talking sculptures and to delve into the possibilities of the palindrome as a driving force for forms and narratives, a project in which they are currently inmersed. Through rigorous working procedures, each of the components that make up their works simultaneously obey different functions, articulating a complex internal system with its own identity.
Their work has been shown at numerous institutions and exhibition programs, including La Casa Encendida, the IVAM in Valencia, Tabacalera in Madrid, and the C3A in Córdoba, and forms part of public and private collections such as CAAC Sevilla, Fundación ARCO, Fundación Unicaja, MUCAC Málaga or DKV. Soon, their work will be shown in the exhibition that the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M) will dedicate them in 2027.
