Chloe is an American-born young professional living in Berlin, Germany. She spent the first part of her life living in charming New England. She was originally born in the northernmost American state, Maine, and later moved to southern New Hampshire, where she spent most of her childhood. She continued to return to Maine every summer to spend time at her grandmother’s rustic farmhouse, which inevitably left an imprint of the beautiful state in her heart.
At around age 9, she moved to the southeastern United States, where her family ultimately settled in a small town in South Carolina. Though she was so young, this geographical change made her realize how vast the world truly is. Her awareness immediately sharpened, and the impulse to continue learning the secrets of her surroundings did so as well.
Chloe graduated from the College of Charleston Honors College with two Bachelor of Arts degrees in International Studies and German Studies. During her studies, she fueled her curiosity about the world around her by actively serving as a mentor to international students who chose to spend time in Charleston. She ended up making some of her best friends from every corner of the world, which influenced her to study abroad three times and to keep making such unique connections. She spent two summers in Berlin, where she took intensive language courses to reach professional fluency in German, and one semester studying international development at the renowned University of Sussex in Brighton, United Kingdom.
Her professional experiences range from working for her undergraduate Honors Program as their Strategic Communications Coordinator to fulfilling internships with internationally focused non-profit organizations. She was the first American intern at Menschen fuer Menschen Karlheinz Böhm Äthiopienhilfe (MFM) in Munich, Germany, a non-profit that creates tangible change in Ethiopia through vital community partnerships. She later interned for the Ibu Foundation in Charleston, SC, which focuses on connecting female artisans to the global marketplace, sharing their stories and passions with the world, and sufficiently putting the profit directly back into their own pockets.
After immersing herself in the fundraising, marketing, and development world of nonprofit organizations, she decided to make them the center of her career aspirations and proceeded to obtain a certification in Fundraising and Development from the University of Southern California, Davis.
Her draw to nonprofit organizations began once she was placed as an intern at MFM in 2023. The exposure to an international workplace excited her, and the pull to make sustainably focused, tangible change grew stronger. This experience working in Munich influenced her to be exactly where she is today: back in Germany.
After obtaining her bachelor’s degree at a quite unfortunate time to enter the American job market with a focus in international development, she decided to venture abroad to start her career and further her education.
To do this, she applied for the new Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card) visa, which allows professionally and linguistically skilled individuals to move to Germany for one year to find a long-term position. Now, she writes to you from the heart of Berlin in one of the most vibrant neighborhoods: Kreuzberg!
Her love for connecting with people from different backgrounds energizes her. Quite frankly, it changed her life. This is why she writes. She writes as an outlet to express her hundreds of thoughts, ignite passionate discussion, and create connections through lived experience. Her upbringing taught her to remain curious and embrace her imagination.
Growing up, she wrote thrilling short stories, wrote songs and skits, and played several musical instruments. Now, she spends her time curating the perfect Spotify playlist, making collages with magazine cutouts, or watching the newest critically acclaimed film in the cinema. She prioritizes staying active, and you can find her at her local yoga studio or going bouldering with friends.
Despite that her writing for most of her academic life reflected essay prompts and assigned research papers, she always found a way to allow her creative side to shine through between deadlines. She has previously written on topics for her school magazine surrounding sustainable fashion, thrifting, and self-discovery, as well as countless entries in her own personal journal.
For this reason, she will write to you on a range of topics, covering entertainment, economy and politics, and wellness. Her biggest hope is that her writing will ignite discussion and inspire readers to continue to learn, read, and engage.
Moving forward, she hopes to use writing as both a creative outlet and a mindful escape. She has recently obtained her TEFL certification and will soon begin tutoring students in the English language as she continues to find where the path of living abroad will take her. In the coming years, she hopes to keep calling Berlin home and complete her master's degree there.
Until next time!
