Monitor is pleased to announce Double solo, a two-person exhibition featuring Satya Forte and Pedro Zhang at its Rome space.

The exhibition is the result of the research that Monitor has pursued since its foundation, reflecting the gallery’s twofold connection to the Italian and Portuguese cultural scenes: Satya Forte (Atri, 2000) held a solo exhibition at Palazzo Maccafani, Pereto, in 2024, while Pedro Zhang (Évora, 2001) recently concluded his first solo exhibition in the Portuguese venue of the gallery.

The exhibition brings into dialogue two artists of the same generation who differ radically in their employment of techniques, yet are united by a shared sensibility.

As curator Chiara Lorenzetti writes, «There is a particular correlation between Satya Forte and her works, almost a relationship of coincidence, evident in her choice of materials and in the way they respond to the introduction of tension. […] Beyond the first glance, everything in her works speaks of the deeply personal relationship she has with her surroundings.»

Among the works on view there is a photograph portraying her father inside a lighting store. He entrusts himself to the camera with the vulnerability of a human being whose eyes are blindfolded, and who is therefore entirely at the mercy of the gaze of the observer. Elsewhere, a bleeding finger meets the rays of the sun; small, intimate drawings made with the artist’s own hair reveal, almost imperceptibly, the view of the French doors she observes from her desk at home. While these works speak to an intimate and private dimension, the sculptures articulate a similar yet distinct language, in which the tension between the strength and fragility of their materials is immediately apparent.
