From 24 July to 29 November 2026, the MAO presents Paesaggi da sogno / Dreamscapes, an exhibition dedicated to Utagawa Hiroshige's celebrated series The 53 stations of the Tōkaidō, one of the greatest masterpieces of nineteenth-century Japanese art, from the UniCredit collection.
The exhibition brings together a selection of 36 prints, recreating the immersive and almost cinematic experience of the famous route while expanding the narrative through objects and elements of material culture that shaped and accompanied travel in Japan between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
The exhibition thus offers an opportunity to explore not only Hiroshige's extraordinary vision of the Tōkaidō, but also the broader culture of travel in Japan, bringing together landscape, movement and everyday objects to evoke the experience of a journey through the country.
