Chapter VII: shifting grounds is a group exhibition centered on cycles of displacement, both visible and invisible, that shape our times. Through a range of contemporary practices, the exhibition offers a reflection on the many ways in which movement—whether forced, voluntary, symbolic, or literal—defines our experience of the world.
The exhibition places particular emphasis on the human impact on the environment, migration, identity, economic structures, and the tension between action and inaction that contributes to the recurrence of these cycles. Featured artists include Adel Abdessemed, Julius von Bismarck, Pablo Davila, Alicja Kwade, Ho Tzu Nyen, Nohemi Perez, the creative duos Elmgreen & Dragset and Trix & Robert Haussmann, as well as the artist collective Troika.
As part of the exhibition, acclaimed conceptual artist Mel Chin will contribute an accompanying essay, engaging in dialogue with the presented works and expanding the show’s discursive scope. Through this collaboration, Shifting grounds becomes not only a visual platform but also a space for critical thought around the imbalances and displacements that define our present moment.
