Under the title "Horse & Heron" (a sort of name for an English pub, invented off-the-cuff), Manuel Caldeira (Lisbon,1979) presents his second solo exhibition at Alecrim50 gallery in Lisbon.

The artist chose for this exhibition large size drawings and a group of paintings on cut out plywood.

These works had as "background" Paolo Uccello’s paintings - The battle of San Romano - a triptych divided between the National Gallery in London, the Louvre Museum in Paris, and the Uffizi in Florence. Uccello evokes the battle of the Florentines and the Sienese using a drastic stylization on elements of heraldic, warlike and animal nature, etc.

Manuel Caldeira's reading of this work, privileges the tendency of the abstract representations, thus conferring to the line(central role element and border) a vector character that fragments and autonomizeschromatisms and rithms.

Frequently undervalued or seen as cryptic, Uccello’s "decorativism" acquires an unusual strength, critical and analytical - austere, melancholic and meditative.
