Good organisation is the key to success in life. Success cannot be achieved without discipline and dedication to the higher goal we have set for ourselves. In life, our success is not determined solely by talent or financial situation at the outset. Nor is it determined by the financial support of loved ones or connections. It is determined by our habits, consistency and discipline.
What are priorities?
Priorities say a lot about us. And we usually set them unconsciously. We simply make decisions without much thought, which show what is most important to us. For some people, this may be investing all their money in travel, because their priority is to broaden their horizons and experience other cultures, while for others it may be buying a flat to settle down somewhere permanently. In fact, priorities are the beginning of everything, the foundation for talking about success. However, we often do not ask ourselves what our priorities are, but they emerge by chance as a side effect of the decisions we make.
Properly organising our priorities can help us organise our life goals. If we do not do this, we may wander through life with our heads in the clouds. When something becomes not just a dream for us but a goal to be achieved at all costs, which becomes paramount for us, then we should build all our other plans and tasks around it.
Priorities should be consistent with our set of values. Then we act consistently and move towards success. If our priorities deviate from our values, we will not enjoy success.
The mind of a warrior
When we are disciplined, regardless of external conditions, whatever happens, we are internally navigated to stay on course towards our dreams. And these are not just empty slogans or catchphrases; we actually realise these dreams. Because realising dreams is a set of specific decisions. It is not an affirmation or an empty phrase. Nor is it an experiment. The path to dreams is a consistently pursued path, often full of sacrifices and difficult decisions. Therefore, you must have the mind of a warrior if you want to effectively follow the path to your goal.
We generally associate discipline with the military and strict habits designed to toughen our bodies. However, discipline is more than that. We distinguish between discipline of the mind, which can take us much further. Mental discipline teaches us the strategic path to success. It is a kind of map of dreams, which we concretise with specific decisions. Because this discipline involves not only planning but, above all, achieving the goals we have set.
Enthusiasm that never fades
Consistency is what enthusiasm is in the face of adversity. If you want to inspire and motivate others, you cannot lose your enthusiasm. Consistency is just that. You cannot get discouraged at the first sign of failure and forget the goals you set for yourself at the very beginning. Consistency is, therefore, a decision not to give up and not to succumb. I will not break, no matter what happens outside.
We learn the most from our failures. Success does not teach us as much as failures do. They allow us to understand where we made mistakes and build our strength of spirit. Failures are a map that shows us precisely what can be done better or what is unnecessary. When we consistently correct these mistakes and improve ourselves, we become masters of our field. That reminds me words of Michael Jordan, a famous basketball player:
I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life, and that is why I succeed.
(Michael Jordan)
In order for your mind not to forget what its spark is, i.e., the enthusiasm that leads you to a specific goal, you need to fuel it with vivid visions. This vivid vision can be surrounding yourself with photos of the goal you want to achieve. If it is, for example, a trip to your dream destination, hang photos of that place in your room. Surround yourself with its energy; let it motivate you so that you don't forget. Be like a child who is never bored. Be like a tourist who is constantly in awe and on the move at the same time.
Being consistent is like going on a pilgrimage. You have a specific destination, and you simply head towards it. Despite the hardships of the journey, you do not give up on your destination. You keep going. And that's what being consistent is all about. It's not a sprint. It's a marathon for long-distance runners.
The perseverance of a monk
Perseverance is a trait associated with patience and acceptance of the pace at which changes occur in our lives, leading us to success. When I describe perseverance, I am reminded of Marina Abramovic's performance, in which she and her followers spent hours separating rice from other grains. The task was intended to calm the mind and focus on the goal. In times of emotional distraction, attention deficit and haste, we have trouble persevering with simple choices, let alone the consistent goals we set for ourselves.
Success requires perseverance. It is the cement that builds the individual stages. You cannot demand to get everything right away at the start. Because you grow into your dreams. You change along with them. It is not success that changes us, but the path we take along the way. Because we become someone else on it, it changes and enriches us.
Most often, people give up at this stage. Because perseverance requires fuelling the fire, it's a bit like a long-term relationship, where you have to make sure that the chemistry and interest in the other person doesn't completely fade away. It's the same with perseverance. It is worth taking care of it and reminding yourself as often as possible – why did I set this particular goal and not another? Try to name it, what is the overarching goal? Freedom, love, money? And from there, build the next elements that you need to persevere in. If you want to travel often, you have to be persistent in dealing with various inconveniences related to travel, logistics, or changing time zones.
If your goal is love, don't be discouraged by a failed relationship; don't stop believing in love. Whatever goal you set for yourself, don't stop believing in its realisation. Because your dialogue with yourself is also a dialogue with the universe itself. You set the tone for what you will receive.
The road to success leads through discipline of the mind. Not because there is no other way. But if you want your success to be lasting, you have to change along the way. You cannot achieve success by remaining the same person you were at the beginning. Besides, you have to be able to accept and carry success. Because success is also about who you are to yourself. What promises you have made to yourself and are you faithful to them? Why are you consistent and dedicated? How highly do you value your freedom, your values, to which you have dedicated the coming years?
How loyal are you to the word you have given yourself? Being true to yourself and your vision is the greatest test on the road to success. Because we don't achieve success for others, but for ourselves. However, your success can contribute to the success of others. Because it is often the case that our services or products help other entrepreneurs showcase their talents, implement important changes, or develop someone's skills. Your success can lead to the success of others. But only you can build your own success. And don't forget that.
