Monya Rowe Gallery is pleased to announce the summer group exhibition titled Looking in, looking out featuring Larissa Bates, Lacey Black, Aubrey Levinthal, Erin Milez, Carson Monahan, Kathy Osborn, Marcelle Reinecke, Bryan Rogers, Calli Ryan, Gretchen Scherer and Lily Gibbs Taylor. The opening reception for the artists will be held on Thursday, June 19, 6-8 PM.

Looking in, looking out brings together a group of artists investigating the boundaries between public and private spaces. From common places such as airplanes and cafes to the pathway windows create to private lives. Within artworks, windows can act as a framing device highlighting psychological tension.

The title of the exhibition doubles as a metaphor for looking inward and alludes to the act of being perceived and perceiving. The works on view convey passivity, voyeurism, discomfort, desire and heightened self-awareness, sometimes simultaneously.
