CAN, Contemporary Art Now, returns to the FECOEV fairgrounds, just outside Ibiza’s fortified old town, for its fourth edition 25-29 June 2025. Blending the excitement of the contemporary art scene with the easy-going attitude of the Mediterranean lifestyle, the fair presents the latest in contemporary art, spotlighting new and emerging artistic languages as well as more established artists to mark the start of the 2025 summer season.

Curated once again by freelance writer and curator Saša Bogojev, and organised by the team behind the UVNT art fair now located at Matadero Madrid, the 2025 edition features a curated selection of international and Balearic galleries. First-time participants include Galería Pelaires (Palma de Mallorca), Future Gallery (Berlin), 193 Gallery (Paris), KANT (Copenhagen, Denmark), and Sun. Contemporary (Bali), joining returning galleries such as Anna Zorina Gallery (New York), Gathering (London, Cologne, Ibiza), Veta by Fer Francés (Madrid), and HAGD Contemporary (Aalborg). The fair strengthens its global scope with new galleries and artists from Indonesia, Ireland and Denmark, amongst others, while maintaining a strong presence of Spanish artists through local galleries.

With a continued focus on painting, this edition of CAN Ibiza brings together sharp-edged, plastic realism, figuration and abstraction. Exhibited artists include Aistė Stancikaitė (Marian Cramer Projects), Christian Rex van Minnen (Veta by Fer Francés), Deng Shiqing (C+N Gallery Canepaneri), Emre Özakat (Enari Gallery), Erik Parker (Veta by Fer Francés), Gommaar Gilliams (NIL Gallery), Gori Mora (Galería Pelaires), Jorge Galindo (Nino Mier), Vickie Vainionpaä (Future Gallery), and Yulia Iosilzon (Osnova Gallery).

Artists working in textiles, ceramics, sculpture, and installation also feature prominently, with highlights including Delphine Dénéréaz (Valerius Gallery), Line Munch (HAGD Contemporary) and Hunter Amos (Anna Zorina Gallery), who challenge traditional formats through material and conceptual experimentation. Themes of nature and harmony run through works by Paul McKinley (Kevin Kavanagh) and Ricky Lee Gordon (Sun. Contemporary), while figurative expression is the focus of works by Monica Subidé (Pelaires Cabinet) and Gema Quiles (Herrero de Tejada).

CAN Design, Off Program and CAN Local

This edition of the fair ventures into new territory with the launch of the new CAN Design section, spotlighting leading collectible design galleries from the region. The CAN Design section will feature Ibizan galleries Galería También and Soleille Gallery, as well as LA Studio (Madrid, Spain). Beyond providing a platform for Spanish and international galleries, CAN Ibiza also showcases the creative energy and vibrant cultural ecosystem of the island through special events, projects and exhibitions. The fair’s Off Program returns for its third edition, reaching beyond the fairground with the aim of promoting Balearic talent.

As part of the Off Program, Faro de Ses Coves Blanques, a historic lighthouse in Sant Antoni, will feature the work of painters Alba Suau and Adrià Mayordomo; Santa Eulària des Riu Air Raid Shelter will host an exhibition by Joan Canyelles; and Ibizan artist Andrián Martínez will exhibit at Sa Punta des Molí, a beautifully restored mill. Guillermo Fornes will exhibit at Es Polvori gallery in Dalt Villa, Ibiza’s fortified old town, which celebrated its 25th anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site last year.

The Off Program is supported by Balearic tourism company Paya Hotels for a third year, reaffirming their strong commitment to Balearic artistic creation and to the strengthening and visibility of this sector. As part of their support, Blanco Hotel Formentera (Paya Hotels) will host an exhibition by Mallorcan artist Samuel Almansa.

For the second year, the fair will install a public sculpture in Ibiza city as part of their Public Art programme. Conceived by German artist Stefan Strumbel (Ruttkowski;68), a monumental bronze owl will observe the island’s busy city centre from 19 June until September 2025.

The Off Program is complemented by CAN Local, a parallel programme comprising events and exhibitions organised by local galleries and institutions as part of the burgeoning Ibiza Art Week. This year’s exhibition programme includes a show of works by painters Spencer Lewis and Pedro Pedro at La Nave Salinas; paintings by Erwin Bechtold presented with sculptures by Franco Monti at Estudi Tur Cosa; works by painter Ramon Enrich and his sons Enrich R and Isidre Enrich at Estudio Laterna; and Miquel Barceló at MACE (Museu d'Art Contemporani d'Eivissa). An exhibition of works by Edith Dekyndt will be shown at CAN Garita, a traditional fishing hut turned seaside gallery; and a site-specific project by sculptor Lena M. Emrich will be installed at SAFA, a disused water irrigation system repurposed as an exhibition space.

Sergio Sancho, Founding Director of CAN Ibiza, said: “We aim to showcase the very best of the avant-garde visual arts scene - that's why our name is ‘Contemporary Art Now’. The island is an inexhaustible source of artistic inspiration and our idea is to mix culture, business and enjoyment. What differentiates CAN Ibiza is the work of the guest curator who identifies and invites a selection of the galleries due to their position at the forefront of the emerging international art scene. The relaxed atmosphere at the fair creates the perfect environment to engage with art and socialise with friends, and our Off Program and special projects celebrate the cultural life of Ibiza, which is growing every year.”

Saša Bogojev, Curator of CAN Ibiza, said: “I am excited about this year’s developments in the fair, as we introduce a wider selection of artists who work beyond painting, including textiles, installations, ceramics, and sculptures. While we continue to have a strong presence of Spanish artists, mostly represented by Spanish galleries, we also have international galleries showcasing artists from Indonesia, Ireland and Denmark, amongst others. Thematically, we are seeing a shift
towards depictions of the natural world, and a number of artists working with the human figure, often in loose, immediate, and expressive ways. Surrealism is an underlying subject of many of the works, and a number of artists are pushing their work into abstraction. At the same time, an almost plastic, digital realism is represented across the fair, with several artists employing computers and technology as part of their process.”
