Rolf Art is pleased to announce, within the framework of the 2026 edition of the Nodo tours, the opening of the exhibition Preamble: parliaments of America, a solo show by Andrés Denegri (b. 1975, Buenos Aires), curated by Luciana Salvá, conceived as an ongoing investigation into the forms and functioning of political systems in America.
Drawing on documentary and poetic reflection, Denegri works with the monumental parliamentary buildings erected to demonstrate institutional stability, order, and democratic representation. These architectural structures, the central focus of the project, encapsulate much of the symbolic dimension of the continent's political systems.
The exhibition brings together a body of work created from footage of the parliaments of Buenos Aires, Havana, and Valparaíso. The buildings are photographed—frame by frame—on location with a Super 8 film camera, which Denegri uses as if it were a still camera. This process generates an archive of thousands of frames that are then extracted from the film sequence and reorganized according to a different logic. This gives rise to a form of montage that no longer operates between moving shots, but rather between still images, producing a break in the traditional system for which cinematographic devices were conceived.
The images are fragmented, displaced, and recomposed to construct new configurations: possible, imaginary, chimerical, and unstable rearrangements that critically interrogate contemporary systems of political representation. The domestic, intimate, and minimal fragility of the film medium chosen by the artist thus enters into tension with the monumentality of parliamentary architecture, relating the everyday experience of citizens to the grand symbolic apparatuses of the State.
The parliaments of the Americas project has the valuable support of the Santander Argentina Foundation through the Cultural Promotion Program (Sponsorship) of the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires . In addition, Meridiano —Argentine Chamber of Contemporary Art Galleries—, Saint Felicien of the Catena Zapata Winery, and Garbo also support and make this exhibition possible.
