The Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) are presenting Gaza, where life endures, an exhibition by a Gazan photographer from the UNRWA team in the Gaza Strip.
For security reasons the artist has decided to remain anonymous, a fact that serves to draw attention to both the context in which these images were taken and the value of this visual account.
The exhibition brings together ten contemporary portraits of Palestinian men, women and children who survived the Israeli offensive. Each portrait is accompanied by images of personal belongings, creating an inseparable composition between subject and object that emphasises how everyday items acquire extraordinary significance in a context of devastation.
The exhibition is part of the Cultura viva por Palestina y UNRWA programme, an initiative led by UNRWA Spain to support Palestine through culture. From 18 to 23 May, the programme includes cultural activities in Madrid spanning music, film, poetry and art.
