Macunaíma is Duwid is a group exhibition that critically revisits the work Macunaíma – the hero without any character, by Mario de Andrade, based on an artistic and documentary collection of Brazilian modernism, in dialogue with productions by contemporary indigenous artists.
With approximately 100 items, including paintings, engravings, sculptures, and documents, the exhibition features works by artists and thinkers from the peoples of northern Brazil, belonging to the Wapichana, Makuxi, Tauperan, Akawaio, and Patamona ethnic groups.
The work of Mário de Andrade, who will be 100 years old in 2028, is said to have been inspired by Duwid – the creative force of the world in the traditions of various peoples – to write Macunaíma, a character who became a hero of modernist literature.
