At seven am, you're about to get dressed before going to work, and oops, it's all your winter clothes in there. The sun is starting to shine, but thick winter sweaters and red Christmas jumpers feel totally inadequate right now as the streets are bathed in the morning sunlight of early spring. Your scarf suddenly suffocates you, your coat overheats you, and that festive jumper is… inadequate. Don’t panic. We’re about to reset your wardrobe for a clear style and for more energy, and it’s going to be amazing!

Spring blossom: or why your wardrobe needs a fresh start

Spring is coming, and with it, renewal: light returning, good times ahead, feeling inspired, and energy flowing almost like a full-on new beginning. Your wardrobe deserves the same treatment. Often, we feel naturally inclined to do a deep cleaning, or what I like to call a deep wardrobe cleansing.

If you’ve never done it or haven’t done it in a few years, I highly recommend it yearly. It’s not just tidying clothes; it’s limiting overconsumption, rediscovering what you own, realizing what you can wear again, and gaining clarity about your style personality. You’ll start to notice what pieces make you feel alive and which ones quietly drain your energy. It is doing the work in 3D!

First, how does it feel today just thinking about it, on top of your head? What would a great wardrobe feel like? And what will happen many more months down the road if it stays as it is today? And if you already are a wardrobe Feng Shui master, this is just a reminder and additional tips.

Wardrobe benefits: your style, your life, your temple

Why bother? Because the benefits are real. Think: saving time in the morning, reducing decision fatigue, and feeling confident, creative, authentic, and polished, not just at work, but everywhere out there. Walking into a wardrobe that makes sense is like stepping into a mini Zen garden temple. Everything has its place, colors, and flow, and your energy just feels right because it is aligned with all your chakras. You get to live your story, the movie of your life, every morning. And you’ll make better use of what you already own, also, I pinky promise.

Prepare yourself: body, mind, space, and snack

Before diving in, set the stage. Make sure you have enough time, because this isn’t something you do in five minutes with your cat walking over your clothes. First, open your wardrobe, take a deep breath, and maybe even sit for five minutes contemplating. Feel the energy. Who does this wardrobe belong to? What does it say about you? Do you feel drawn in or overwhelmed thinking of the back pile behind those sweaters that you are not even sure what exactly is down there?

Set a playlist, something energizing, grounding, or meditative, depending on your vibe. Pre-prepare a nice snack and drink for breaks. I mean a real treat, not a sad standing sandwich. So when halfway into the adventure, the time to stop properly for rest, you will feel like a goddess building a kingdom, having a feast, and watching the construction of her towers. Treat the process as a ritual, not a chore or a bore.

Empty your wardrobe: see everything, feel everything

Inspired by Marie Kondo, I suggest that you take everything out of the wardrobe. Every item. Shoes too. Accessories can sit aside for now. Put it all on the bed or floor and look at it. Big pile, small pile, messy pile, it doesn’t matter. Let yourself feel the reality of your collection or accumulation. And count how much you have. Because chances are high that there are an abundance of over 100 pieces.

Then, let your wardrobe rest empty for an hour, two, or maybe even three. A bit like a closet fasting, if you see what I mean. The space itself will breathe. More is less for a moment of stillness. Emptying is the first step to fresh energy, a new start, and clarity.

Cleanse the energy

If you want, add a little playful ritual. Colored crystals, a tuning fork, or a few claps to shake up the energy in the corner. I know it sounds weird, but it’s fun. You can also smoke the empty wardrobe with white sage or incense.

Vacuum in the drawers and swipe surfaces with essential oil and a witchery pinch of salt. I personally love to use lavender, but pick what smells most like your unique energy. You’re not just cleaning; you’re energizing your space, making it amazing to your senses, and giving it a vibrant aura. Step back and breathe. You’ll feel the difference?! Hein?!

As a last touch, you can hang some good-smelling cedar, perfume, or a lavender pouch for a touch of femininity.

Three piles game: yes, maybe, thank you no

Ideally, you’ve done a color analysis, body shape analysis, and style analysis already, not too long ago in your life, and you have so much clarity that this exercise is a no-brainer. If not, trust your intuition. And yes, we will use mirror, mirror, tell me the truth as you will try most of your outfit again on. (If you don’t own one, run and get one. It is not a moment for the body's inner critic to attack, but more of a reality check of what works and what doesn't work in your life at the moment, but with clothes.

Here’s the game: you will create three piles of clothes.

  • Pile 1: yes, yes, yes: your absolute favorites, pieces that make you feel like a goddess.

  • Pile 2: humm… maybe: items that are tricky don't fit perfectly, or you can’t pair them easily. Pinterest can help; if you doubt, just quickly search the item and get inspired by millions of stylists on the platform. But like in Tetris, this pile either moves to Yes or No eventually until it disappears.

If some items are not your size, no need to have screaming in your face every day. If you wish to keep them for now, just put them in a plastic box and put them in the attic. So your wardrobe is who you are today, not in other centuries and past lives. They served their purpose; now you are raising your new frequency.

Also, often this pile contains expensive items of quality that are not in the right color or fit for us, but that, since we invested in it financially, can feel hard to not keep.

  • Pile 3: thank you: those are the items that do not fit anymore, that are worn out, that you do not look your best in, that you do not like the color as you look sick in it, etc.

No matter what, you can be grateful to all those apparel for the time being, but now it is time to let go of the old, and welcome the new. Of course, since you are into sustainability, you will make sure to resale, reuse, recycle or donate to not harm the mother planet or any other beach in Africa.

  • Other extra category: sentimental items. Give them a little ritual: a beautiful box and a sacred spot on top of your back shelf. Honor them as you cherish what they represent, like a precious relic.

Take photos of the outfits you make and be your own muse; save them in your iPhone folder with a fun and inspiring title that reflects who you are.

This is a few-hour process, and you might want to take some notes on missing pieces to buy on a piece of paper. Remember, your wardrobe should contain mostly basics and statement pieces as signature items as a rule of thumb. Everything should mix and match naturally according to your color, style, and body shape. If those three areas are not clear, give me a non-telepathic call through the phone or find one of my fellow Fairy Image Consultant colleagues nearby to clarify with you. If you financially can’t manifest that miracle, ask a friend who loves fashion and who is good with clothes for sister support.

Try also to reflect on how you feel in that dress-up exercise and to understand what it reflects about you and your eventual pattern, fear, uniqueness, and potential.

You can also invite very honest friends to be your truth teller with your “maybe” pile.

Make space for your soul: reorganize your closet

Now, the fun part: reorganizing. Empty shelves and hangers are like blank canvases, but there are a few commandments to live by:

Separate seasons! Your wardrobe should only have the current season’s items. We, humans, are meant to be congruent with our environment. So, no winter clothes in June, it creates confusion for your brain when figuring out what to wear.

Channel your inner Marie Kondo and/or June; learn her amazing folding technique that will make you save 30 to 40% space in your cosmic universe. Or find any other same type of decluttering expert on Insta that can save your life with their closet space and folding hacks.

Tidy by item (pants with pants, tops with tops, skirts with skirts, and coats and jackets together; I think you get the riddle). Hang from largest to smallest, one per hanger only, please; otherwise, this nice shirt will disappear for another entire season. I personally recommend the velvet hangers, as they are very thin, saving space and preventing slipping fabric. Choose larger wooden hangers for coats and blazers to keep the shape. Make sure to have boxes for small or folded items in different sizes.

And my personal touch is to try to hang by gradient color so that you get a nice rainbow that makes it so easy for you to see what is what and is pleasant to watch.

The goal: a wardrobe that fits, feels good, and reflects your personality. Open it, and let it inspire your day. You might even feel a small sense of joy every time you grab a shirt. That’s the point: your closet now becomes your support system; it is not overwhelming you anymore.

Design your life for your wardrobe

Now that it is all done, take a good look. How does this fab new wardrobe feel?

More than just clothes, opening your closet is a daily ritual that you practice to honor your body. It is a way to design the start of your life every single day, choosing the energy you want to send out. Treat your wardrobe well, and it will reduce stress, build confidence, save time, spark creativity, and inspire playfulness and authenticity. Your wardrobe is your personal energy tool, supporting you every step you take through work, life, and all your adventures. So feng shui it, and give it its little nickname for recognition.

And if there are a lot of tasks, remember that you can also go one drawer at a time…
