Welcome to Tramoya [Stagecraft]! This magnificent exhibition features works by Ayelén Coccoz (Rosario, 1973), Verónica Gómez (Morón, 1978), Leila Tschopp (Morón, 1978) and Antonio Villa (Esquel, 1988), four artists working at the intersection of the visual and the performing arts. Scenery, backdrops, dolls and costumes are turned into paintings, videos and installations that reveal an imaginary theatrical world.
Tramoya celebrates experimentation, playfulness, poetic invention and unabashed sleight of hand. The title refers to the theatrical artifice of illusion and the rigging systems used to suspend and control scenery; and to something that, once revealed, reminds us that staging is always a shared act of creation.
The works brought together present staged scenes in the making, suspended in time, waiting to be activated through encounters with others. They are scenes that invite us to participate in a physical and ceremonial experience, where the theatre displays its visual and tangible powers.
With large-scale productions, textile works that await their performance, and moving limbs that replicate the appearance of real bodies, the works on display conspire to enact or evoke an imminent action.
In this way, Tramoya invites us to immerse ourselves in the rituals proposed by the artists, to become actors, stagehands and inhabitants of these imaginary choreographies.
