May Miturich is an artist who painted images of heroes familiar to everyone from childhood. His illustrations of books by Korney Chukovsky, Samuil Marshak, Redyard Kipling, fairy-tales by Lewis Carroll about Alice, Japanese fairy-tales and other works have been classic for a long time. His drawings enliven animals and jungles in Mowgli, Barmaley, The fly Tsokotukha, Bibigon adventures, Alice in Wonderland and Through the looking glass – characters that have been familiar to more one generation.

The exhibition will display the artist’s rarely exhibited and well-known pieces: pictorial and graphic portraits of his contemporaries, lyrical landscapes, still-lifes, book illustrations and rare archive materials. Among them are May Miturich’s child drawings, his diploma work, international prizes and the unique Japanese seal awarded to the artist as a token of gratitude. A separate section will be devoted to the master’s family: his father Piotr Miturich, a famous graphic artist and teacher in the famous VKhutemas, and his mother Vera Klebnikova, poet Velimir Khlebnikov’s sister.

Visitors will be able to find themselves in the artist’s imaginary studio – a space where one could imagine how he worked over his graphic and pictorial pieces. The library arranged specially for young visitor, will give a chance to read books with the artist’s illustrations.

The multimedia support of the exhibition will complement the narrative about May Miturich. Viewers will learn about his participation in the making of the slide film on the poem Merry Siskins by Daniil Kharms and Samuil Marshak as well as of the panel for the Paleontological Museum.

As part of the exhibition, a large educational program has been prepared; it includes creative workshops for children and adults, tours and a cycle of lectures.
