Galleria Alessandro Bagnai is delighted to announce the first exhibition in Italy by German painter Tatjana Valsang. This happens in coincidence with the gallery’s two- year anniversary in the new space inside Palazzo Ricasoli, Piazza Goldoni, Florence.

The exhibition presents a selection of recent works by the artist, mostly large canvases. These are abstract paintings where streams of colour tear open the different layers, while they melt and sublimate each other. Tatjana’s canvases express a strong sense of luminosity: layers of colours are applied with explosive energy, though the result is the weightlessness perceived through their translucency and clarity. Tatjana’s paintings remind us of the organic beauty of nature, as if magnified, such as butterflies’ wings and foamy streams of water; while sometimes they bring to mind the nearly chemical and artificial colours of some sunsets and of psychological, psychedelic experiences. The wholeness of the composition is exasperated yet balanced and creates a new natural phenomenon. There is in fact no reference to a specific source or a subject.

The exhibition also includes a group of smaller paintings in the shades of black, grey and brown. These are more intimate and subtly poetic works, with irrational connotations and a dreamlike atmosphere.

Tatjana Valsang (1963, St. Tönis, Germany) lives and works in Wuppertal (Germany) and at her studio in Tjörn (Sweden). After completing her studies at the Düsseldorf Kunstakademie, the artist carried on experimenting in the intimacy of her studio. In 2011 and 2012 the artist showed at Konrad Fischer Galerie (Düsseldorf and Berlin, Germany); in 2013 she exhibited at the Kunsthalle Wuppertal-Barmen (Germany) and in 2014 at the Andersson/Sandström gallery (Umeå, Svezia). Between June 14 and October 31 2014, Tatjana Valsang is participating in the group show Icastica, taking place throughout the city of Arezzo (Tuscany, Italy).

The exhibition is curated by Lorand Hegyi
