The Silla history exhibition hall invites visitors to explore the ancient kingdom of Silla, a remarkable civilization that ruled over the southeastern region of the Korean Peninsula for nearly a thousand years, from 57 BC to 935 AD. This long-lasting dynasty played a crucial role in shaping Korean history, leaving behind a legacy of political stability, cultural refinement, and architectural innovation that continues to captivate scholars and tourists alike.
The exhibition is organized into four main halls, each offering a unique glimpse into different stages of Silla’s development. Hall 1 introduces the founding and early history of the millennial kingdom, laying the groundwork for understanding its rise to power. Hall 2 showcases the golden age of Silla, a period of great cultural and artistic achievements marked by intricate metalwork and sophisticated craftsmanship. Hall 3, divided into sections 3a and 3b, highlights the pivotal events surrounding the unification of the Three Kingdoms and the subsequent flourishing of Unified Silla’s culture.
Additionally, the Gukeun Memorial Hall complements the historical narrative by presenting valuable cultural assets donated by Doctor Lee Yang-seon, known by his pen name, Kukeun. His generous contributions to the Silla Art Gallery provide a personal and scholarly dimension to the exhibit, enriching visitors' appreciation of Silla’s enduring cultural heritage.
