Thomas Deans Fine Art is pleased to present "Destruction Derby Dreamland", a solo exhibition of new paintings by Atlanta-based artist Evan Jones. The exhibition will be on view from June 10 to July 8, 2023, with an opening reception on Saturday 10 June, from 5 to 7 pm.

Evan Jones is known for his colorful and imaginative paintings that combine elements of history, pop culture, and Southern identity. His previous exhibition at Thomas Deans Fine Art, "Country Store", was a critical success that received a glowing review by Felicia Feaster in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. In that show, Jones explored the themes of rural life, nostalgia, and Americana through a series of paintings that referenced European history painting, Nascar racing, folk art, and tattoo design.

In his new exhibition, "Destruction Derby Dreamland", Jones continues to challenge and delight the viewers with his playful and irreverent approach to painting. Inspired by his childhood memories of watching demolition derbies at the local fairgrounds, Jones creates a fantastical world, juxtaposing references to classical mythology, medieval art, comic books, and graffiti to create a dynamic and expressive visual language. His paintings are full of humor, energy, and symbolism, inviting the viewers to join him in his dreamland that nevertheless conceals deeper, if not explicit, meanings.

Evan Jones was born in 1992 in western North Carolina. He graduated with a BFA in painting from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2016. He has exhibited widely in the United States, including at La Loma Projects in Los Angeles, Greenville Contemporary in South Carolina, Albany Museum of Art in Georgia, and Governors Island Art Fair in New York. His work has been featured in publications such as New American Paintings, Booooooom.com, and Friend of the Artist Magazine. He is represented by Thomas Deans Fine Art in Atlanta, Georgia.
