Xippas and Albert Baronian Galleries are pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition Le Choix d’Albert on Thursday, May 16 at the Xippas Gallery in Geneva. The title reflects the content of the exhibition, a selection by Albert Baronian of the works of most of the artists he represents in Belgium. This group exhibition is part of the invitation made by the galleries from the Quartier des Bains to invites international galleries to invest their spaces during an exhibition in Geneva.

For this exhibition, Albert Baronian is wearing the costume of curator to present his choice, that is to say seventeen of his artists of international origin, such as the Swiss Marie José Burki, the Belgians Robert Devriendt, Leen Voet and Marc Trivier, the French Lionel Estève, Eric Poitevin, Alain Séchas and Bruno Serralongue, or the duo Gilbert & Georges (Italy and England). Also present are Olaf Holzapfel and Thomas Zipp (Germany), David Brian Smith (England), Tony Ourseler (USA), Achraf

Touloub (Morroco), Maja Tušek (Slovenia), Wan Du (China), and Gilberto Zorio (Italy).

Albert Baronian opened his first gallery in 1973 and immediately enjoyed international success thanks to the representation of artists from Arte Povera such as Alighiero e Boetti, Mario Merz, Giulio Paolini or Gilberto Zorio. Later, as president of the Association of Galleries (Belgium), he gave the impetus for the first Brussels art fair created by the association to take on a more international dimension under his direction. Albert Baronian thus experienced the evolution of the fair, from an intimate gathering of some fifteen Belgian galleries to Art Brussels, an internationally renowned fair with 147 galleries in 2018.

The gallery’s programming is dedicated to both artists and major artistic movements that define the last forty years of contemporary creation. Most recently, Albert Baronian joined forces with Renos Xippas to open a new gallery in Brussels in April 2019: Baronian Xippas.
