Hoffman Donahue is pleased to present Everything but perspective, a solo exhibition of new work by Vera Palme.

The exhibition includes small scale abstract paintings alongside a new series of looping brushstroke monochromes. Working primarily in oil on unbleached linen, Palme builds her surfaces through layers of brushstrokes, scrapes, and dense accumulations of paint.

Quoting past compositions and art historical tropes in equal measure, the artist approaches painting from a position of sustained skepticism toward the medium and its inherited conventions. How to circumvent the problem of making a painting while still making a painting is a deliberately circular question.

Palme understands this practice of questioning like a quotidian routine – questioning the answers, questioning the questions.
