Drawing on the works that make up the Generaciones 2000-2024 Collection, belonging to La Casa Encendida, this Museum of inconstant memories emerges.

The exhibition is based on the idea that remembering means rewriting the past from a personal point of view. Thus, the selection made by the curators, graduates of the Master’s Degree in Curatorial Studies at the University of Navarra, aims to create a museum of inconstant memories, where a journey through the mind is created in the form of a labyrinth that goes from the most superficial to the most intimate and profound. The works seek to be representations of fragments of experiences, in such a way that they are capable of being rearticulated to generate original interpretations of the past.

The curators base their approach on a phrase taken from the poem Cambridge (1969) by Jorge Luis Borges, We are our memory, we are that chimerical museum of inconstant forms, that heap of broken mirrors, in which the poet’s interest in the functioning of memory can be glimpsed. His philosophical reflection on memory shares the same desire that drives this exhibition: to understand the complexity of our experiences and memories.

Art, in the same way as philosophy, constantly questions our relationship with memory. Like the past, the meaning of works changes over the years, and we never arrive at a final definition of what we remember or of what art means. According to Borges, memory is an individual fact. We keep our memories in our mind, which the poet compares to a museum. Within this museum, each memory is like a piece of a broken mirror. These fragments are grouped together chaotically, without a clear order or coherence. When they come together, they create an image of the past that is only an illusion.
