Featuring animals made using a range of methods by five artists, Barbara Lubliner, Ira Pearlstein, Katharine Butler, Nieves Saah, and Vija Doks. Each artist explores different materials such as wood, chalk, and plastic bottles and utilizes unique techniques to bring each animal to life. Animal house seeks to compare and contrast artists’ processes through the diversity of their animals. Each animal reflects the artist who made it.

Barbara Lubliner aims to portray both hope and self-awareness in her plastic bottle dogs. The bottles are transformed into fun, loving dogs to embody positive transformation and action while still retaining their identifiable shape to raise awareness of post-consumer waste.

Ira Pearlstein’s work is created from found objects. He has a collection of materials found in the streets, waterways, and his local salvage yard. Giving a new life to objects brings him great joy.

Katharine Butler is both an artist and committed environmentalist. Her work showcases her interest and dedication to the environment and nature.

Nieves Saah uses rich, contrasting colors to construct complex paintings. Often, she sets asides works for long stretches of time before returning and bringing it to fruition.

Vija Doks creates work to showcase the diversity and beauty of animals. She hopes to remind the viewer of the fragility of animals in our man-made environment and awaken them to the magic of animals and the environment.
