As Lucio saw Dina apparently disappearing before his eyes, he turned his car around and drove aimlessly. He just could not think straight after seeing who was seemingly Dina driving far away. He lost her again, but what he really wanted to know was why she was running like this if that was actually her. Moreover, he wanted to find out who Justin was, since Lucio was certain that Justin had something to do with her disappearance or departure from Rome. Lucio knew what he needed to do, and that was to drive back to Justin’s house, no matter how risky that may have been.

Lucio rang Justin’s doorbell and nervously awaited an answer. Justin answered the door, asking, “Do I know you?” Lucio tried to explain to Justin using limited English, but the attempt was unsuccessful. However, Lucio’s accent sounded familiar to Justin (it was the same as that of his former father-in-law, Maurizio). Justin then asked Lucio if he was Italian, and Lucio said that he was. Justin couldn’t help but notice how flustered Lucio appeared, seemingly in a dire situation. One of the few things that he understood from Lucio was “Dina.” Factoring in all of these things, Justin felt that it would be appropriate to call Maurizio so that he could translate.

Justin called Maurizio and explained the situation. Both Justin and Maurizio were perplexed about what Lucio’s interest was in Dina. Justin put Maurizio on speaker phone, and Lucio identified himself as Dina’s husband and said that he was looking for her since she had disappeared. Maurizio then responded that he must have the wrong person because Dina was not married. Maurizio was about to hang up when Lucio said, “Wait, wait, I just used to call her my wife, but we were not legally married. I was and am still in love with her and still have the intention to marry her. Just please let me know where she is or what happened to her.”

At that point, Maurizio began a side conversation in English with Justin. They both thought the whole situation was very strange, especially when Justin let Maurizio know that Lucio appeared to be in his 30s. Maurizio thought it was a scam or a sick joke and advised Justin to ask Lucio to leave his property. Then Justin said, “I’m here with him now, and it’s not going to be that easy to get rid of him unless I pull my gun out, and I don’t want to do that because he honestly seems distraught and not dangerous. I think you should just tell him the truth.”

Maurizio then told Lucio the truth: that Dina died. Lucio felt as if a ton of bricks had hit him. He held his chest and then threw up in front of Justin’s door. He apologized and then started crying. When he collected himself, he asked if they could tell him where she was buried. Maurizio told Justin what he said and told him that he no longer wanted to be part of this charade, so he just hung up. Justin physically saw how Lucio was reacting and felt bad for him, so he wrote down the address of the cemetery, handed it to Lucio, and closed his door.

Lucio walked back to his car in despair. When he got inside, he saw that the address was in Miami. He remembered how Dina loved Miami and would always talk about it. They even made plans to go there together one day. He never thought that this would be the circumstance that led him there. He cried as he drove back to his hotel room and planned to leave for Miami first thing in the morning to say his final goodbye to Dina.

Lucio was unable to sleep throughout that night. He tossed and turned, and at times, felt that he could not breathe. He could not believe that Dina was gone forever. He thought of all the good times and bad times they had together and how he wished those bad times had never existed. He knew that he would never be able to sleep that night if he thought of the bad times, which would bring out the guilt he never wanted to face, which was the guilt that he took Dina for granted and was mean to her sometimes. Once again, he decided to block that out, so in order to get some sleep, he closed his eyes and began to think of Dina the first time he saw her: swimming in the ocean in Formentera.

Upon Lucio’s arrival in Miami, the sun was shining, and the vibe was happy for everyone except him. It was truly as beautiful as Dina had described it, but all he could think of was the difficult task he had ahead of him, which was to say goodbye to Dina.

Lucio drove around the cemetery, but it was very difficult to find Dina’s tombstone, so he parked and walked around, but he still couldn’t find it. He saw a cemetery employee and asked him if he knew where Dina Miranda’s grave was, which he did and asked Lucio to follow him.

When Lucio saw the grave, he immediately cried and wanted to turn back, but he had made a promise to himself to read a letter he had written to Dina. He hoped that she would hear him and be forgiven from above. It’s a shame that he never said these things while she was alive, but he still wanted to do this for her and for himself. After months of searching and wondering, the situation had come to an end. Although it was a painful ending, it still provided closure for him.

Before beginning to read, Lucio noticed something odd on the tombstone. It said that Dina had passed away two years ago, right before he had actually met her. As he continued to read the dates, he noticed something even stranger. As per the tombstone, Dina was 80 years old when she passed away. After taking a moment to think and register this, he began to smile and realized that this had to be a different Dina!

Lucio walked away happy knowing that his Dina may still be alive. However, there were still many unanswered questions and strange coincidences, leading him to rethink how much he ever really knew about Dina. Given this, he decided it was not time to leave Florida yet, and he may have to stay there a little longer.
