Erin Cluley Gallery is pleased to announce a little more, an exhibition of new and recent works by Dallas-based artist, Nic Nicosia. a little more will be exhibited concurrently with Nic Nicosia: Everyday surreal at the Nasher Sculpture Center, a survey of the artist’s sculpture, drawing, and photographs from the last 25 years. In conversation with Nicosia’s survey at the Nasher Sculpture Center, a little more presents an expanded look at the artist’s multimedia practice. Since broadening his scope from the staged photography that the artist was originally recognized for in the 1980s-90s, Nicosia’s oeuvre has been distinguished by uncompromising experimentation and emotional intimacy. The artist’s newest solo presentation presents recent developments in his expanding practice. Across sculpture, drawing, and photography, this exhibition explores points of connection and departure between mediums and the life of the artist now.

For the last four decades Nicosia has dedicated his practice to what writer and curator Michelle White describes as the “witty excavation of the invisible dysfunction lurking within us all.” The artist’s newest works continue this investigation, transforming seemingly normal objects and subjects—a six-sided dice, cube shelf, celestial spheres—into conduits for his dry humor and piercing insight. A series of text-based works, it's not about the words, 12.10.2022-12.31.2024 chronicle banal observations and thoughts of the artist’s life over the course of two years. Exemplified by these text works is the personal intimacy underlying Nicosia’s wit.

Presenting sculptural and photographic works alongside each other, this exhibition reveals the trajectory of Nicosia’s sculptural practice. At the turn of the 21st century, Nicosia began constructing small-scale sets populated with small figural sculptures. Eventually the artist began creating and exhibiting sculptures as unique art objects. The most recent sculpture in the exhibition, in the box #2 (2025-2026), typifies Nicosia’s enigmatic approach to three-dimensional work. On each side of the birch plywood box are drilled holes correlating to sides of a dice. Visible through the holes is a marionette, resembling Nicosia himself, holding a simple drawing of a face. Through layers of visibility and opacity, revelation and complication, Nicosia constructs dreamlike environments where truth converges with fiction.

a little more will be the artist’s seventh solo presentation with Erin Cluley Gallery. It will be exhibited concurrently with Katie Miller’s Riverbraids.
