Czech photographer Bet Orten presents her new exhibition Your blood/My roses at The Chemistry Gallery. The exhibition takes place at Hall 40 of the Holešovická tržnice in Prague at Bubenské nábřeží 306/13. The exhibition will remain on view until 12 July 2026.
This distinctive exhibition offers insight into the key themes of the artist’s work, particularly the many facets of female experience. Through intuitively composed photographs, Bet Orten explores not only a collective mythology of women, but also her own mythology, shaped by everyday life, personal history, and fairy tales. The works will be presented through an unconventional installation that extends beyond the traditional framework of photography. The exhibition will also feature photographic objects and immersive installations.
In Your blood/My roses, the photographer turns her gaze deeply inward. The exhibition’s title refers to an experience from Orten’s childhood, when she encountered an image of self-harm involving someone very close to her. An image so powerful in its terror, mystery, and beauty that it seems to embody the essence of Bet Orten’s artistic practice: beauty is never superficial, it emerges from complex inner processes that do not shy away from darkness or from the possibility of reassembling what has been broken into a new, authentic, and powerful self.
The artist approaches these themes through the authentic experiences of both herself and the women she photographs.
“I let ‘my women’ run, leap, and fly. To become what they longed to be. To run into landscapes where things are not always safe, but where the path becomes their own choice,” says Bet Orten about her creative process. “I want them to retell an old story through the language of inner images that longed to emerge from the darkness and see the light. I let them create their own mythology.”
