Oh, the irony. I am aware it is severely weird to write about writer’s block, yet here we are, feeling together that the value of a writer’s words in the year 2026 is both suspect and of a lesser value than in previous decades and centuries. Since words were written in sand, on cave walls or on papyrus, there has been something innately and inescapably human about the words you choose to say in sequence to create meaning.
There’s this whole anecdote coined by (I think) Bruce Lee; he said on some late-night talk show, “Words have power. Words are spells, that’s why they call it spelling.” Now, honestly, I don’t know if this is pure garbage or pure wisdom (2026 in a nutshell); all this is to say that I can’t make up my mind about anything anymore. I have writer’s block; I have a block on damn near anything. When world leaders lead with this current example, when they know that all humanity deserves is a lasting peace in our lifetime, it feels more violating and cumbersome than just demotivating.
Here’s the thing: you don’t experience inspiration or a great idea every day; no one does. That feeling of stillness and quiet reflection that you feel all on your lonesome behind closed doors, that feeling that won’t go away, the question of “What do I do next?” that every human being experiences, and the other one of “Oh, am I messing something up, making a mistake?”
The current socio-economic and geopolitical landscape forces us to think about what Jaden Smith wanted us to discuss so many years ago. I want a resolution to my emotions, but there is no respite or oasis or foreign peace; there is no resolution to my damned emotions, let alone some type of lasting inner peace. That’s fine, I’ll compromise, but world peace cannot just end up as an idea displayed by beauty pageant queens. If Miss Universe wants a lasting peace in our lifetime, who are we to laugh? Is this how humanity dies? To thunderous applause and roaring laughter. Society always needed a Batman, but these billionaires are more tiresome and conventional than social justice. I ask myself every single day, is Elon Musk an idealist?
The world does not have to achieve peace right away or unify any sects, but human beings need to stop dividing up land and just make better deals so I can go to work not having to think about why war is even a thing in the big year 2026. Many people reading this must think, “Oh, he’s never seen a day on the battlefield.” No, I have not, and my forefathers would not have wanted to. I don’t want that for your son or daughter. Believing the news is difficult too; it’s oversaturated with opinion and dripping, practically oozing, with a feedback loop of either extreme love or extreme hate.
Extremism and fundamentalism ring the same tune in harmony with conservatism, which is an impracticality to achieving a lasting peace among all human beings in our lifetime. I get headaches sometimes just trying to justify the horrors that we see in today's and tomorrow’s atrocity exhibition. An ex of mine had this quote; she said holding onto a grudge is like holding onto a hot coal. If you follow any faith, would your God not expect better of you? Would your God not want a lasting peace in the world today if your God wanted such a thing?
Here we are again, more questions than answers. I find myself treading on a surface of ice, and knowing there are such horrific depths beneath the surface, it is a fragile and seemingly impossible task to walk along the ice for as long as our legs will carry us without the surface tension disappearing beneath our feet. This is how I feel all the time. I have tried therapy and tried antidepressants. We can’t keep being so silent and leave the idea that world leaders return to a sense of selfless civic duty to understand and live how the people live.
When I put this vocally into words around friends, acquaintances and colleagues, they give me a long sigh as if it’s been hard enough tolerating the state of things without one guy who thinks he can change the world trying to yap their ears off. This is all I want to write about, because it’s unfortunately all I can think about, highlighting our divisions and differences every night on the news. It's a terrifying thought and it persists in direct contrast to hope or action.
There’s another popular saying, “When the times get tough, the tough get going.” That is applicable to many scenarios, but unfortunately people feel the times are already tough just trying to survive and eat while Iran is attacked by the United States and Israel. The cost of living is an enormous issue for billions of people in the world today. As of April 2026, the right and conscientious decisions should be and importantly, could be raised in the highest offices of governance.
That’s the thing; this whole article just reads like one great big “what if?”
