Jaana Caspary (b. 1988 in Wuppertal) studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 2007 to 2014 and was a master student of Prof. Didier Vermeiren. During her studies, she worked as an assistant in Tony Cragg’s studio. The starting point of her sculptures are everyday, real objects. Once selected, these are first molded and then mirrored, multiplied, shifted, twisted, and newly reassembled.
In this way, new arrangements or autonomous objects emerge, which are then cast in new materials such as bronze or plastic. Removed from their original functional context, they oscillate between the found and the invented, becoming abstract and organic, and can be experienced by the viewer as objects in their own right.
Caspary consistently demonstrates the sculptural potential inherent in everyday forms. In 2023, Caspary had a major solo exhibition at the Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden in Wuppertal, where she also presented a large outdoor sculpture.
Until February 2026, a solo exhibition of her work can be seen at the von der Heydt Museum in Wuppertal, which was connected to the Dieter Krieg Prize and included the acquisition of one of her sculptures. Caspary lives and works in Wuppertal.
In her first solo exhibition at Galerie Friese, the artist presents new sculptures and drawings.
