The extended exhibition has been arranged together with the National Museum of China; it is timed for the 75 years of establishing diplomatic relations between Russia and China and successfully completing cross Years of the two countries’ cultures.
The exposition goes beyond the traditional chronological approach and focuses on three key aspects: creator, connoisseur and practical application of art. This perspective allows revealing the social context of the works creation and closing the gap between aesthetic systems.
At the center of the exhibition is the epoch of Ming and Qing dynasties (XIV–XIX centuries) as the peak of the Chinese painting and calligraphy flowering. The exhibition displays 91 items from the collection of the National Museum of China: scrolls, albums, fans and others showing technical mastery as well as lifestyle of various social groups. Some reconstructed scenes are presented for deeper immersion: drawings reminding of literary gardens, the Wall of Fans recreating the atmosphere of shops and the portrait of Confucius in a traditional classroom interior. Tactile and interactive elements allow getting closer to the ever living art of China.
The exhibition holds out art as the «third language» for the dialog of civilizations drawing parallels between artistic search in Chinese and Russian cultures. Through these parallels, art becomes a bridge for the translation of human ideas and emotions.
