The most important distinction of avant-garde from the art of prior epochs is absolute freedom of artistic self-expression, rejection of academic and any other single stylistic tradition, reluctance to subordinate art to social problematics, a focus on individualized authentic artistic endeavors. It is for this reason that avant-gardists’ works are so different from each other. Artists did not set a goal of expressing their inner world in their artwork, but, having found themselves free from any external limitations, they showed their individuality most distinctly.

The exhibition will display works by Kazimir Malevich, Vasily Kandinsky, Alexander Rodchenko, Natalia Goncharova, Mikhail Larionov, Ilya Mashkov, Aristarkh Lentulov, Olga Rozanova, Georgy Yakulov and other outstanding avant-garde masters.

A look through the prism of archetypes provides an opportunity of penetrating into the artist’s mind on a new level. It enables to understand what psychological patterns guided the master, why he created these very works, what his motivation was and, thus, come to a deeper understanding of the unconventional art of the early XX century.

An attentive viewer will also find it interesting to find himself/herself among the 12 archetypes.
