Becky Ogbar

Becky Ogbar was born in Lagos, Nigeria. She finds her identity in writing because she believes “writing is breathing.” For her, writing started as a way to cope with an overactive imagination; she had stories in her mind and opinions she didn’t feel comfortable sharing, so she wrote poetry and essays about life, grief, and growth. Writing felt like a personal treasure and a healing process; she didn’t begin sharing her work until 2020, after COVID hit.

She went on to create poetry videos in 2022 and fully embraced writing in 2023 as both a lifestyle and career, not just a private habit. Most of her writing is poetry and self-reflection, contemplating life as someone who feels deeply and seeks to understand empathy in daily life. While she mostly writes about herself, her essays are rooted in a strong desire to travel and explore. She daydreams on paper and reads about lifestyles and cultures she has yet to experience. Adventures and travel inspire her writing and motivate her to keep striving. Living in Nigeria, she is a homebody and rarely goes anywhere, which led her to start a different kind of writing focused on adventures she wishes to have. After getting a B.Sc. in microbiology, she decided to double down on her passion for writing. She has experience with writing articles, blog posts, and even social media copy, exploring industries like edutech, fintech, healthcare, and service. She aims to live life one day at a time.

Writing and creating are her roots and her home, as she shares her passion for poetry through videos online to spread hope and joy. Highlighting the beauty of a simple lifestyle, she remains determined to see the world. Documentation plays a large role in her process, and she enjoys making videos, writing poems, or lengthy reflections about the seasons she experiences, creating a record of them. The main goal of her writing is that the reader feels less alone—a sense of camaraderie, even if their journeys aren’t the same. Just like with music, where listeners connect with the melody and feeling even without understanding the lyrics, she writes words that resonate in your heart even if you’re not on the same journey. Whether in a big city or some hidden town no one knows, she hopes her writing inspires people to start living, even if they haven’t figured everything out.

Her dream is to publish a book filled with poetry that readers can return to in sorrow or joy, whatever season they are in. The kind of writing that invites you to slow down and listen, to see what you're missing. Becky’s earliest inspiration came from Celia Martinez, a Latina poet who inspired her to start writing free-verse poetry.

Even now, she's still figuring things out while focusing on writings about self-love, discipline, growth, and joy. Her writing remains undefined because it never follows a straight line but instead poses many questions and explores different perspectives. Some days, her writing is filled with enthusiasm and energy; other days, there's a certain fog or confusion. But the one steady trait is that each line is laced with honesty and ulnerability.

Her goal is for her words to meet someone, anyone, at a point in their journey and make them feel less alone or understood. For now, she writes to stay present with the world and with herself, capturing her evolving thoughts and feelings. Her journey is just the beginning, and she’s determined to thrive and learn along the way, embracing every stumble and breakthrough as part of her growth.

She writes to make others know that they are seen, because whether the reader knows the author or not, that connection is possible and beautiful when created.
