My childhood was spent moving from place to place, surrounding me with different cultures and personalities that expanded my horizons past my hometown in Western Canada. I was hungry to learn as much as I could about the environment around me, to create entire worlds by knowing my own. I began writing poems, short stories, and songs in my early childhood, and started bigger projects later in my life. I am currently working on a fantasy manuscript, and hope to publish it in the future.

Writing is ingrained in how I exist. My inner thoughts are more like prose than wonderings of the mind, describing life and every complex emotional response in the third person. Writing is both a trained skill that I have developed over time and an instinctual form of creation simultaneously; I don’t remember my life before writing, or a time when I didn’t search for stories in everything I see. I am drawn to telling stories that are often not in the spotlight, and stepping outside of my comfort zone to write about unfamiliar subjects.

My fictional writing intertwines emotional themes such as love, heartbreak, and grief, as well as social and political commentaries. For me, fictional writing is at its best when it contains elements of real life that you can analyze and comment on. Meanwhile, my non-fictional writing aims to analyze and critique political and cultural topics. I especially love writing about entertainment—such as movies, shows, music, and theatre—as I can engage with art existing in our world and analyze it as such. I approach it the same way I hope someone would my own pieces: with intention and careful analysis. Additionally, I use my education in social sciences and humanities and the research skills I developed to write political pieces, allowing me to discuss and challenge my opinions.

Music has also been greatly ingrained in my life for as long as I can remember, and I practically grew up with a guitar in my hands and a microphone in front of me. When I wasn’t writing, I was teaching myself songs on ukulele, piano, and guitar, and singing show tunes on YouTube karaoke channels.

Music, and the arts by extension, remain a fundamental piece of both who I am as a person and what I write about as a journalist.

I hope to continue emphasizing the power of human voices in art, especially in a time of misinformation and geopolitical tension. In times such as these, the capabilities to think critically, check sources, and research extensively are all critical. Therefore, none of my work will contain AI interference of any kind, editing or otherwise. Preserving my ability to research, write, and edit my pieces is crucial to the overall quality of my work, and . Storytelling was also one of the first forms of art that humanity developed, with oral histories helping to form narrative techniques used by writers today. Abandoning our innate intuition of storytelling for “convenience” forsakes the soul of the art we devote our lives to, and we’d be neglecting future generations by forgetting how to make mistakes, learn from them, and teach those lessons to others.

I hope to continue reminding the world of the importance of the arts, social justice, and the power that journalism can hold. My interest in politics, philosophy, and culture intersect in what I write, creating a comprehensive body of articles that is backed by extensive research and genuine interest. I hope to build a career in journalism and writing novels, get involved with local and international political movements, and always stay informed on what is going on in the world.
