The State Tretyakov Gallery presents Masterpieces of art from Kazakhstan, an exhibition within the Days of Culture of Kazakhstan in the Russian Federation. The bulk of the project is composed of the works from the funds of the Abylkhan Kasteev State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan complemented by the pieces from the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery.

The exhibition acquaints viewers with the best pieces of the Kazakhstani fine arts of the XX century. Paintings and sculptures displayed give an idea of several generations of talented masters.

The display is opened by pictures of Abylkhan Kasteev whose artwork stands at the origins of national school development. In the 1950s it was shaped through the efforts of the Alma-Ata art school graduates who took in the experience of Moscow and Leningrad: Aisha Galimbaeva, Gulfairus Ismailova, Moldakhmet Kenbaev, Sabur Mambeev, Kanafia Telzhanov and Kamil Shayakhmetov. Their works follow the best traditions of realistic art with the enduring reference to the national theme. The canvases of the next generations of artists reflect all the diversity of creative search consistently revealed in the exhibition.

The works of the artists of the Sixties Salikhitdin Aitbaev, Shaimardan Sariev, Abdrashit Sydykhanov, and Tokbolat Togusbaev are distinct through their color and plastic experiment. The amplification of the symbolic and philosophical concepts, individuality of the authorial manner became key in the fine arts of the 1970-1980s. New tendencies were manifested in the famous triptych «Land and Time. Kazakhstan» by Kamil Mullashev showing different images of the country: that of a virgin land, space exploration and industry.

The achievements of Kazakhstani plastic art masters are proven by pieces of prominent sculptors: Tulegen Dosmagambetov, Yerkin Mergenov, Olga Prokopieva and Yesken Sergebaev.
