Maki Gallery is pleased to present Middle place, the latest solo exhibition by Aichi-based artist Keisuke Tada. Tada has long been deeply engaged with the relationship between real and fabricated constructs and the effects of their entanglement. Through his ongoing exploration of the conflict between "being there" and "not," he investigates the uncertainty of reality in the digital age from multiple perspectives.
In this exhibition, Tada unveils Painting of incomplete remains #274, the largest work to date from an ongoing series based on landscapes of virtual spaces the artist has wandered through, which have then been transformed via artificial aging processes. Alongside the unveiling of this new work, the exhibition also features key pieces from the trace / wood series, in which wooden floors and walls are recreated solely with paint while capturing traces of wear and dirt, as well as the Heaven’s door series, where antique-style gates—meticulously reproduced with paint—are violently destroyed with an axe.
Having produced a vast body of work while persistently refining his techniques, Tada's practice has now reached a moment of significant development. We warmly invite you to experience this important milestone in his career.
