Artist Angela Yuen has a unique emotional connection and artistic perspective on Hong Kong’s urban culture. She uses collected nostalgic plastic toys, stationery, and Hong Kong-specific found objects to create captivating sculptures. With the support of light projection techniques, the artist vividly presents Hong Kong’s iconic city skyline in an artistic form.
In this exhibition, Angela Yuen continues her signature creative style, specially crafting two new installation works for the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre (vA!). The inspiration for these works comes from the musical fountains that were popular in mall public spaces during the 1990s, an urban landscape feature that has gradually faded.
Through large-scale, site-specific art installations, the artist skillfully integrates dynamic light and shadow with found objects that carry collective memories. In the rhythmic changes of light and shadow, the works evoke memories of malls as public spaces and prompt viewers to reflect on the evolving pace of urban society.
