The Contemporary Art Modern Project is pleased to announce our September exhibitions opening on the 5th at our North Miami gallery. In one of the two shows, we turn our attention to New York based artist Katrina Majkut, in her series Fair play, as she looks towards traditions and markers of culture through both iconic images of sports heroes and embroidery.
Taking the baseball card, she adds new dimensions through her embroidery to both the now ‘hidden’ player under her stitches, and in so doing opens the door to a more open paying field. By removing the actual ‘hero’s’ image, Majkut focuses on the accomplishment only, leveling the preverbal playing field to be ranked by what one has achieved.
Combined, both Berrio and Majkut bring our attention to things often not considered simply due to the ‘noise’ of everyday life. Each artist asks the viewer to slow down, to look and to focus on both possibility and accomplishment - let everything else become silent.
