Since 1979, Brand x editions has pushed the boundaries of screenprinting and its expressive possibilities in their partnerships with emerging and established contemporary artists, from Helen Frankenthaler and Alex Katz to Rashid Johnson and Emily Mae Smith.
This exhibition celebrates the transformative gift of the Brand X archive of over 400 screenprints to the permanent collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Sharing 45 years of collaborative work between founder Robert Blanton (and his team of printers and chromists) and a constellation of artists, this show will address subjects relating to identity, language, design, landscape, and politics while exploring artistic process and innovative technique.
Through vibrant colors, layered compositions, and technical experimentation, the prints on view reveal the dynamism and versatility of screenprinting as a medium. The exhibition not only highlights the artistic voices that shaped the Brand X legacy but also honors the role of the master printer as a creative collaborator. Together, these works offer a compelling narrative of artistic innovation and shared vision across generations.
