Comptoir des Mines Galerie is delighted to welcome Simohammed Fettaka's second solo exhibition, entitled Dérives.
Four years after Un guide Andalou (2021), the artist returns with wisdom and anguish, verve and radicality, fluidity and trial and error. We are invited to a meeting between play and childhood, where the artist finds a source of inspiration, discipline and an outlet for his pessimism, playing with borders and dreams in the face of ideologies, questioning the society in which we live.
For several years now, Simohammed Fettaka has been ingeniously practising an art form that aims to ‘modify knowledge as it is established, by assuming the subjectivity of perception’. Convinced that art objects, like established images, are neither closed nor finished, he plays with them, turning them upside down, diverting and linking them, in a constant effort to exhaust their possible meanings. He doesn't stop at the image itself, but also at its off-field, breaking the frame and offering a counterpoint and sometimes a reversal.
