Downtown Los Angeles’ Corey Helford Gallery (CHG) is proud to announce its next major solo exhibition by Argentine painter, illustrator, and stop motion filmmaker, Peca, marking her first solo at the gallery. Set to premiere June 7th, Allegories and cupcakes will be on view in Gallery 3 through July 12th.

Peca creates dreamlike and mystical worlds populated by anthropomorphic creatures and mystical beings. Her art is often inspired by her own dreams, visions, and meditations, which she translates into vivid visual narratives filled with universal symbols. Her childhood in Argentina was marked by the brutality of the military dictatorship, from which she found refuge in music and painting. After studying fine arts in Buenos Aires, Peca moved to Barcelona in 2001, where she now lives and works. To take us along on her visual journey, which begins in the otherworldly and continues with the invocation of countless fantastical creatures, Peca employs a diverse range of media (including oils, acrylics, and pencils).

Regarding her new series, Peca shares, “My work is inspired by my personal interest in finding the meaning of life and highlighting the spiritual, it is an existentialist search for fundamental questions. For me, painting is a philosophical exercise of self-knowledge and universal knowledge, it is meditation and materialization of meditation.”

Adding, “Allegories and cupcakes is a series of sacred stories of the desert, an exodus of migrant souls tracing a path and leaving footprints. The nomadic mind in zero gravity trying to find the holy grail of existence. A trip where feet, paws, claws, clouds, sand, fluttering, cosmic movements, embroidered skin, holy fruits, delicious creams, ethereal breaths, floating beings, failures, fun, and loneliness are mixed in an organized equilibrium about to succumb.”
