“Now we have a computer, a video and numerous other things, so that contemporary art became abstract and people rely on a computer and tend to forget about traditional art. I’m young but I just want to show people that surreal style of painting is still not dead. I keep making fresh pieces and amaze people through my visions”. - Naoto Hattori.

Naoto Hattori was born in Yokohama in 1975, Japan and graduated from Tokyo Designer’s College in 1996 and he soon he moved to New York to study illustration at the “School of Visual Arts”. In 2000 he received a BFA in illustration and an award from the Society of Illustrators of New York and from the New York Directors Club. While attending school, Naoto was selected to be in an exhibition of The Society of Illustrator’s annual scholarship competition.

He won several prizes and his artworks have been published in many art magazines and catalogues about pop surrealism movement.

Naoto Hattori, the artist of the bizarre, reminds of Bosh and Arcimboldo in a pop Surrealist way.

Observed by thousands of eyes, the fantastic animals and the world unveil the secret of a reality that is impossibile to define, and subject to a constant and fluid metamorphosis in which the eye is both author and witness.

Of his work, He says: "My vision is like a dream, whether it's a sweet dream, a nightmare, or just a trippy dream. I try to see what's really going on in my mind, and that's a practice to increase my awareness in stream-of-consciousness creativity. I try not to label or think about what is supposed to be, just take it in as it is and paint whatever I see in my mind with no compromise. That way, I create my own vision."

The characteristic of Hattori is the hyper-realistic technique by which it combines the portrait, the landscape and the objects of everyday life or fantastic. Naoto Hattori exposed in the most important international galleries of pop surrealism scene.

On 2011 after his solo show at Dorothy Circus Gallery of Rome, his artworks were selected by the “Lion Biennale” for the exhibition “Les Enfant Terrible” which was dedicated to the most popular artists of Pop Surrealism.
