On January 23rd through January 29th, 2012, Sheffield, United Kingdom, will host the ISU European Figure Skating Championships 2012. The event officials guarantee fun and entertainment; the Motorpoint Arena, which is the place where the event will be held, is a stadium with 9,000 seats, and it is operated by Live Nation, the largest operators of arenas in the world. Within 800 meters of the arena is ice Sheffield, the NISA National Figure Skating Centre and the venue for the practice rink.

Built on seven hills, Sheffield is one of the greenest cities in Europe, with over 200 parks, gardens, and woodlands, as well as many canals and nature trails. It is a place where everything is close by and it has many attractions for its visitors with galleries, museums, theaters, malls, and convenient infrastructure between the hotels and the Championship Arena.

In the last 20 years, over £100 million of sports facilities have been developed by the city of Sheffield. This includes the Motorpoint Arena, which has an Olympic size ice pad together with two ice pads located 150 meters away in the ice Sheffield development.

The Motorpoint Arena was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II, on May 31st, 1991; the building was erected in time to host the World Student Games, hosting concerts, ice shows, ice hockey, exhibitions, and conferences.

The building's indoor multi-purpose auditorium is well able to accommodate audiences from theatre-style shows of 3,500 up to center stage productions of 13,000.

The Arena is operated by Sheffield International Venues (SIV), one of the largest sport, leisure, and entertainment companies across the country. With 14 venues across the city of Sheffield, SIV is trying to make Sheffield an international and cultural center in regard to sport, leisure, and entertainment.
