Catharina Dhaen compares painting with a game of chess: in a number of moves that are impossible to determine in advance, boundaries, forms, colours, layers, perspective are sought and explored, set on, sensed and adjusted again. In the final canvas the searching never disappears: Catharina's work is visually strong and at the same time tangible fragile. Her paintings seem, averse to any message, to communicate only the painting itself. At the same time, however, they grasp the desire to make our own, sometimes fleeting, small, sometimes intangible perceptions tangible.
