Ronchini Gallery is pleased to present Variazioni, the first UK solo exhibition of works by the renowned Italian sculptor Gianpietro Carlesso. The choice of title is derived from the artist’s decision to return to and investigate one of his earlier works, Essenza, 2015, through different materials including steel and wood.

Standing as a manifestation of an open process, Carlesso’s sculptures embody harmony through their organic, abstract form, with an undulating fluidity that constitutes grace and virtue. Representing the profound ideology of the infinite, energy flows along their uninterrupted contours.

Although Carlesso’s works are physical explorations of the idea of the infinite, they are made of impactful materials, and consequently still firmly rooted in the realm of the tangible. In this way, he creates his own physical, and systematic language, enabling viewers to experience metaphysical concepts through their own senses. The purity of the cedar wood and the roughness of the rusted steel reflect different levels of materiality; their properties force the viewer to react differently, based on one’s own experience of them.
