This exhibition brings together the work of two artists, Sarah Knight and Caro Millington, in their investigation of the human psyche and its impact on the physical world around us.

The title of the exhibition – Continuum - refers to the development of each artist’s own work, and to the way in which both artists have created elements of work that explore the physical and psychological landscape we inhabit. The work is prompted by both macro and micro events: from the world economic downturn and its consequences to personal experience.

Although the direction of travel of each artist is unique, their work can be read as a sequence of ideas that question and challenge the human need to defy our own mortality and create lasting memorials to it.

The works develop from an exploration of physical impact on the land around us to an examination of the idea of property and how it is used to give meaning to life - as monuments to our aspirations - as well as how it affects perceptions of the world and our sometimes fragile place in it.

There are elements in this body of work that may seem completely disconnected, but taken as a whole it becomes a statement about the artists’ defiance in the face of human mortality. Perhaps our most effective monument to immortality is our art.
