Artbooth Gallery presents Nearness, a solo exhibition by Palestinian artist Wadeei Khaled, opening on 12 November and continuing through 31 December 2026. Bringing together compositions shaped by human relationships, geometry and colour, the exhibition considers the family as the foundational structure through which people understand themselves, their histories and their connection to place.

For Khaled, the family extends beyond a group of individuals. It is a space in which stories take shape, values are transmitted and gestures endure across generations. His paintings explore this continuity, transforming the intimate relationships of everyday life into a visual language of love, care, resistance and belonging.

The human form is fragmented and reconstructed within networks of lines and geometric shapes. Geometry becomes a means of organising relationships between figures, revealing the connections between people, land and memory. Earth tones and passages of light carry a parallel significance, suggesting that memory resides as much in bodies, surroundings and daily rituals as it does in words.

Throughout the exhibition, the mother, child, musician and elder recur in different configurations. These figures do not represent specific individuals; they embody a shared human presence that reaches beyond a particular time or place. Their relationships affirm the family as a structure sustained through care and continuity, extending beyond ties of blood.

Rooted in Khaled’s personal experience and engagement with Palestinian cultural heritage, Nearness moves between the intimate and the collective. The home becomes a small homeland, while the homeland becomes an extended family. Within this exchange, painting offers a space for preserving the relationships, memories and traces of life that time cannot erase.
