This is the setting of a refuge, of a refuge-like room. Davartis wakes from a dream with an urgent need to write, and the only material she finds are their sheets. This desire grows when, one night, their friends gather to share the bliss of drawing on the fresh fabric.

In this room, a momentary sense of tranquility is shared, one made up of pleasure, fun, gentleness, and laughter. A world of its own, perfect for resting. In this exhibition, textiles, drawings, and sculptures evoke a need, somewhere between childlike and universal, to protect oneself from the outside world.

A plush protection that reminds us that feeling safe never lasts very long, but that doesn’t make it any less deeply valuable.

David Jarrín (Davartis) is a multidisciplinary visual artist and graphic designer interested in error and failure as methodologies for artistic creation and research. Through drawing, textiles, ceramics, and installation, his work addresses identity, illness, sexual dissidence, memory, and the Andean landscape. His hybrid approaches challenge fundamental dichotomies such as health/ illness, human/nature, and norm/dissidence.

David has presented solo shows such as Send nudes (No Lugar, Quito / Espacio Onder, Guayaquil) and Está bien no pensar en todas las cosas (+Arte Galería, Quito / Museo Nahím Isaías, Guayaquil), as well as group exhibitions in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, the United States, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Hungary. He currently leads the exhibitions department at the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Quito (CAC) and is co-director of Acero Galería. He lives and works in Quito, Ecuador.
